Fatal Farm Accident - Olam

Monday, February 10, 2014

An almond processor says it has completed its internal inquiry into the death of a farm worker in north-west Victoria last year.

A 55-year-old man was operating a tractor at the Annuello almond orchard at Robinvale, south of Mildura, when he died in August 2013.

Victoria Police and WorkSafe conducted an investigation to determine what happened to the man.

Olam says it also did a comprehensive analysis of the root cause of the tragic death.

It says it has lifted safety standards since the accident by holding behavioural training sessions for workers.

Olam has also trialled the implementation of automatic brake systems for all tractors.

The Singaporean agribusiness opened its nut processing factory at Carwarp a year ago.

It says it will continue to support employees and the victim's family through its assistance program.
