WorkSafe says there is still room for safety improvements on construction sites throughout mid-west Western Australia.

The workplace safety watchdog conducted inspections throughout the region last week to check compliance with occupational health and safety laws.

Inspectors issued 20 improvement notices, eight prohibition notices and a number of verbal warnings.

WorkSafe's Chris Kirwin says 85 per cent of notices issued were in relation to electrical safety.

"Those things were badly damaged electrical leads and cords, they just weren't being kept in a state of good repair. Those things need to be regularly checked on a daily basis by those people using them," he said.

"The other bit to do with electrical safety was a lack of testing and tagging of those electrical leads, either by an electrician or a competent person."
