A Tasmanian salmon producer wants charges relating to a young employee's death dropped.
Zachary George Doyle, 19, of Dover was killed in an accident on board one of Huon Aquaculture's salmon fishing boats near Surveyors Bay in March last year.
The popular footballer, who had only just become engaged, died of chest injuries after a large crane fell on him.
The company is facing several charges, including failing to provide training and instruction to ensure the safety of an employee.
Huon Aquaculture's lawyer has entered a plea in the Hobart Magistrates Court under a seldom used section of the Criminal Justice Act that there should be no further proceedings.
Magistrate Olivia McTaggart said it is an unusual plea that needs a lengthy explanation.
She adjourned the case until later this month.

EasyOHS comment: Can you afford the moral and financial cost of a death at work? Many business owners have no concept of what can happen in the event of a proseuction for a serious workplace safety breach.
Legal costs alone can exceed $20,000 or more just for a small case. This is well worth thinking about when budgeting for safety.
