National Safety Laws

Saturday, April 04, 2009

The push by the Australian Federal Government for national safety laws has been delayed, after a meeting of state ministers failed to agree on a model for the new occupational health and safety bill.

Queensland Industrial Relations Minister, Cameron Dick outlined that they needed more time to consider the proposal.  At this stage a further meeting is scheduled for some time in May.

EasyOHS advisors are following developments closely and will advise of any important issues for employers once the legislation framework is outlined.    At this stage, State and Territory workplace safety legislation still applies and all businesses should continue to work towards compliance under their existing framework.
