The Member for Riverina, Kay Hull, says people with foil roofing insulation should seek an urgent inspection to ensure their homes are safe.
Mitchell Sweeney, 22, was farewelled by family and loved ones in Griffith on Saturday after his recent death in north Queensland while working as an installer.
Kay Hull says with four deaths, there is a risk of more fatalities, so homeowners should not try to check for themselves but instead should call the insulation hotline 131 792.
The Nationals' MP says she is committed to ensuring those with foil insulation have safety inspections and upgraded insulation if necessary.
EasyOHS Comment:
This scheme is a terrible example of how not to implement any program.
It is of little comfort acting post event, as the damage has already been done, lives have been lost and substantial risk still exists.
The contractors and politicians involved need to review current safety practices and ensure that standards, systems, training and procedures are in place and used PRIOR to the activity commencing.
As we can see, with four deaths, over 80 house fires and the potentail now for many houses to be 'live' the tragic consequences of inadaquate systems is only too apparent.
