A 37-year-old man has been convicted and fined over the death of a teenage co-worker at the Ballarat gold mine.
Robert Strucell was giving 17-year-old Damien Tuddenham a lift back to his worksite at the mine in a 40 tonne truck after their morning tea break.
As the teenager climbed out of the truck he slipped on the stairs and fell to the ground.
Strucell checked his mirrors and put the truck into gear.
The truck moved forward and Damien Tuddenham was crushed.
Strucell pleaded guilty to failing to take reasonable care of others.
Magistrate Kay Robinson took into account Strucell's guilty plea, his undertaking to give evidence against his former employer and his remorse.
She convicted him and fined him $2000 and ordered him to complete and occupational health and safety course.
