A man is lucky to be alive after he was catapulted out of the cabin of a crane on a Melbourne construction site. The man was working on a shopping complex in Springvale when a counterbalance fell off the crane and was left dangling by his safety harness 40 metres above the ground.
Another worker climbed up the crane to rescue him.
A WorkSafe spokeswoman said her organisation was investigating the incident, which occurred about 5.30pm yesterday.
"A rigger fell from the machine deck of a tower crane during the erection of the crane," she said.
"Apparently he was held by his harness [and] he wasn't hurt."
The crane is threatening to topple onto an electricity distribution terminal.
Emergency crews are still trying to secure the site.
